Hello everyone J My name is Melissa Chirino. I also go by Mel or Meli. I am 20 years old and grew up outside of Poughkeepsie, NY which is about 70 miles north of Manhattan. It's a nice spot still close enough to take the train to NYC but far enough that we still have farms in the area.

I'm a junior at Union University in Jackson, TN studying International studies and Sociology. I'm not sure what I'll do after school- maybe pursue a masters in social work, work in social services, IGOs, NGOs, teach, or something completely different. I'm just taking things one step at a time. I do know that I have a love for working with people from diverse backgrounds inside and outside of the US and with those most in need in society. I am very excited to be going with all of you to India this summer and see the work God is going to accomplish through and in all of us. I look forward to meeting all of you J

Here's a little more about my family- I grew up with my mom and dad, my older brother, and my grandmother and grandfather. I am very blessed to have loving and supportive parents. My mom is the most caring person I know. My dad is from Cuba and my mom lovingly refers to him as her third child. I admire his selflessness. My grandfather passed away this past year. We all miss him a lot. My grandmother is barely 5' but has a lot of personality. My brother is married and he and his wife are expecting their first baby in the fall. I'm very excited to become an aunt! I also am surrounded by wonderful friends at school that have helped me grow so much these past three years.
