Let's get ready to RUMMMBLLE!!

Wow. I can't believe that it is here! India. Woah.
Tomorrow, I leave for Georgia at precisely 10 a.m. There I will train for a couple of days and will get to know my teammates during that time. I will be IN India the 9th but am leaving the 8th. Basically, I am traveling for a day and a half. Talk about a LOOONG time!

So, how am I feeling?
Peaceful. Calm. Tranquil. Serene. Unruffled.
I mean come on. I am only going to a country that I have never been before where I can't speak an ounce of the language.
Yaaaa, I lied. These are all words NOT attributing to how I feel! haha!

I would say I am nervous, but that would not be the right word. It's more like INTIMIDATED! I have absolutely NO CLUE of what to expect and for some reason that makes me incredibly intimidated.
I am vulnerable. I do not know the people, language, culture, anything! Never before have I been put in a situation like this. Even when I went to Honduras, I could at least get by with Spanish. I am out of my element. Because of this, there is one thing that I do know what to expect.
Change.
My life is in the Lord's hands completely. I am stepping out in faith, going to a foreign country for 2 months (longer then I have ever been from home), and all I am able to do is cling to His glorious dirty feet. I like to think that the Lord's feet are dirty because He is constantly moving. He has already walked the beautiful dirt streets of India. He knows every nook and cranny of the place, every single person's name. Basically, I got the CONNECTION! The Lord is faithful. He has me going on this trip to a country that I know NOTHING of for a reason and NO WAY will He just leave me hanging.
So, yes, I am intimidated, but I am not worried or scared. The Lord's got my back. You want to know why there is not any armor for the back? It is because whatever we face with the Lord on our side we will defeat. Nothing will come behind us because the Lord is in front of us. Yeaaaahh...awesome right?!

So, I am off. To learn how to become a better woman, servant, and follower of the one and only Jesus Christ, Lord of all things. Holy Spirit, rain down on us!

Psalms 37- Read it and soak it in.

Btw, just a shout out to my k-life girls. HOLLA! Told you I would. :) Miss you guys and love you!

Peace out homeskillets. I'm going to go eat me some Indian food.

It's almost here!!!

Hey everyone!

My name is Emily Starr and I am from Tulsa, OK but I go to school at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (woo pig!).  I just finished my fourth year, but due to some major-changing I won't be graduating until December. In all honesty I'm thankful for the victory lap because I don't think I'm ready to face the grown up world yet haha. I'm a nursing student and am super pumped to have the opportunity to use some of my knowledge to help bring healing and hope to people while showing them the love of Christ.
From 10ba0604rl8.myadventures.org
These are some of my dearest friends at a football game.  From left to right: Katie, Julie, Me, and Grace

Since my senior year of high school, I've felt like the Lord has called me to medical missions and each summer I've tried to plan a trip to do just that and each summer it's fallen through.  This summer, I was going to be responsible and try and get an internship, but then through a variety of twists, turns, and leaps in faith (which I'll be happy to go into later), I learned about this trip and my heart was so stirred.  You see, for the past couple of years I have worked with an organization called Potter's House that serves the inner-city of Fayetteville.  I have a fourth grade group and I hang out with a couple of the girls one-on-one and help them with their school work, go to their activities, and basically just try to be a consistent source of encouragement and show them what it looks like to follow Christ.  Through this, God has been reshaping my heart and I see that we're all broken.  We all need healing.  So wherever He'd have me go, be it my home town or some place I've never even heard of, I'm along for the ride.

These are some of the girls in my Potter's House group.  You can probably tell that they are a MESS haha

My friend Julie (the redhead from a couple pictures up) and I also mentor two twin eighth grade girls named Neka and Nesha.  Those girls bring so much joy to my life
From 10ba0604rl8.myadventures.org
Back row: Nesha, Julie, and Julie.  Front row: Neka and me.  I love them soooo much.

Last summer, I felt the Lord calling me to stay in Fayetteville and intern with Potter's House.  Bit of a back story: I have always worked with young kids.  I love them, I know how to make them laugh, and they typically respond back with love.  However, the internship required that I work with the oldest kids in Potter's House- 8 girls, 8 guys all about 15-17 years old.  Needless to say, I was so nervous and out of my comfort zone, but because of that the Lord totally blessed me and showed me how to rely on Him instead of myself.  This was hands down the hardest summer of my life, but also one of the most joyful (it's so true that joy and suffering walk hand in hand).  So many stories that I'll share with y'all later :)
From 10ba0604rl8.myadventures.org
At the end of the summer, we all went to Memphis to love on some people in the name of Jesus and on the last night we had a ladies vs fellas dance off.  One of the funniest nights of my life haha.  One word: family

I. Love. My. Family.  I'm the oldest and I have one younger sister named Karol. She goes to Oklahoma State and she just finished her freshman year. I also have one dog and my sister has a cat, and even the pets are female so my poor dad is terribly outnumbered haha :)
From 10ba0604rl8.myadventures.org
This is an old picture of my family (sorry...).  My hair is much longer now and is a lighter color, but that's pretty typical of me- I like to change things up a bit :)

Let's see, what else can I tell you?  Oh, I too will be celebrating a birthday in India! I turn 22 on June 15.  Can I just say how excited I am to get to know all of you? I've read all of the posts and there are little random things I have in common with each of you and I can't wait to live life with you for the next couple of months.

Some random things about me:
-I think I could live off of green apples, peanut butter, hummus, and diet dr pepper with vanilla from sonic
-I will probably have sonic happy hour withdrawals while we're gone
-I love music and wish I was a better singer, but that usually doesn't stop me :)
-I love nature and exploring, though I tend to get lost easily
-I'm usually reading at least 3 books at one time, so it takes me a long time to get through a whole book
-I LOVE to laugh

We're less than two weeks away! Can't wait!!!! :)

Meet Your Leader

Hey Friends! My name is Laura Meyers and I am so excited to spend this summer in India with y'all doing ministry! I'm from Ohio but currently live in Michigan (although I've not been there since March). I moved to Michigan after coming off the World Race. I was part of the October 2008 G Squad and currently in the apprenticeship program with the World Race specifically focusing on human trafficking. I hope to one day live in India and fight human trafficking so this trip is pretty perfect! I am really excited to spend these next few months getting to know each of you and ministering along side of you!

From 10ba0604rl8.myadventures.orgRandom things about me:

- I love loVe LOVE India so I'm real excited to be back.

- I love water fights and food fights… watch out!

-  Amanda, the other leader, stole my shoes in Thailand the first time I met her… no worries she's bringing them back to me :)

-  I am SUPER passionate about ministering to women and children that have been victims of trafficking.

- I LOVE Jesus with all of my heart and live to serve and know him.

- Besides water fights I really do love water… one of my favorite things to do is to sit by water and have a great conversation… lakes, rivers, creeks… it's all good.

- My second favorite location to sit and have a great conversation is a rooftop in India… I'm feeling a lot of them coming!

I will be turning 20 on the final days of our trip (July 30th) so I am pretty excited about that also. I can't wait to talk to you all and just get to know you! It is going to be such an amazing summer!

Here's a little bit about me

Hello girls!

My name is Amy Cheung from Alhambra, California. Alhambra is located in San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County. I'm 20 years old but not for much longer; I'll be turning 21 in a week. I've lived in southern California my whole life. I'm a Psychology major with a minor in Biblical Studies and will be a senior at Biola University in the Fall '10. I love the field of psychology! Learning about human behavior fascinates me immensely. I would love to walk alongside clients as they process all their thoughts outloud and help them with the mental changes they want to make. I would love to help those to process healing. I'm not exactly sure what I want to do after graduation but I know I definitely would love to be working with people in their path to healing.

A list of my favorites...
colors: shades of green, violet, and salmon
foods: sushi, frozen yogurt, guacamole, curry, noodles, chicken, coffee ice cream
beverage: cranberry juice, water
music: I absolutely love indie, folk, alternative, and instrumental.
books: Bible, The Perks of being a Wallpaper, Catcher in the Rye
Book of the Bible: 1 Peter, Phillipians
person: my mommy

I'm excited to meet Team Bangalore. I'm excited to share about how God led me to India and how He has been stirring up a passion in me to be with women who have been trafficked. I'm excited to be spending 2 months filled with hope, tears, challenges, compassion, and prayer with all you girls. SO stoked!!!!!! :)

Prior to our first meeting, I think it would great to be praying for one another. Praying for unity within our team. Praying that God will remain in the centered of our group and in our lives. Praying that we would witness women and children being saved not only physically but spiritually in India. Pray that the chains that drags us down would be broken in His name. Pray that we would come out in boldness and reach out to the lost in spirit. Let whatever breaks His heart, break ours as well. Let's bring His children back into His arms.

Amen.

Jess' bio

Hey guys! My name is Jess Williams, and I think I'm one of the last people to jump into this trip, but I'm so excited! I am going to be turning 20 in India as well on June 20th! I am a sophomore at the University of Florida as well and was really happy to meet Lindsey a few days ago(turns out we have several mutual friends!). My major is Family, Youth, and Community Sciences, and God has been recently showing me all the options I have to use that course of study to serve Him. I've recently changed my minor to Religion and am really pumped for what I'm gonna learn. I'm pretty involved in the BCM (Baptist collegiate ministry) at UF. I sing in the band and teach a freshman Bible study. I love them all so much!

I've actually been wanting to go to India for several months now and for this exact purpose. God first gave me a heart for India during my Intro to World Religion class my freshman year. I was so interested in the religion and the culture. Early on this school year, God also burdened my heart with the issue of human trafficking and sex slavery. I've been looking into how I can use my major to possibly work with women who have been in sex slavery, whether that's in India or not, who knows. Either way, I'm so stoked about this trip!!!

some random/possibly funny stuff:
I love peanut butter. I could eat it with just about anything!
I'm a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
I really like to sing, and I do it a lot. If I get annoying, tell me to stop. I wont be offended. haha
My favorite movie is the Princess Bride. Go watch it!!!
I can out eat just about every guy I know, proudly.
I'm tall.
I like to run. I like the rain. I like running in the rain.
I like being outside and getting dirty.
I love kids... my little sis is the cooooooollest!
